Quick story:
I was walking with the four girls, heading up the block to
girl scouts. On the way, we saw someone
installing a flag on the front of her house.
We have previously discussed how I am not a superfan of the flags on the
house (this should not stop you Michelle… you rock that family flag with your
flag pole). Returning to the neighbor
who we have not met hanging her flag.
The 6yo shouts from across the street: “I LOVE YOUR FLAG!”
she turned and smiled, a huge smile. We walked
a little further and the 3yo says: “mom, I really love that flag.” My suggestion: Tell her.
So the 3yo
shouts: “I LOVE YOUR FLAG TOO!”
The neighbor
smiles and says: “yeah, kids like rainbows. They are pretty.”
3yo
responds: “and Gay people. We love gay
people too.”
The 5yo had
to chime in: “thanks for making our walk beautiful today.”
I am sure, SURE that when you are hanging your flag on your
house, in your neighborhood you worry a bit about what the neighbors might
think. It is a statement. Hopefully this woman’s statement was made all
that much stronger by a few kids that like rainbows. And gays. And beautiful neighborhoods. And a
lot lot more.

Your little Ladies make me smile. They also remind me that it is ok to be yourself no matter what people think. You are doing an kick butt job raising those ladies.
