We have our own museum

Grandma and Grandpa were in town, so that means we have to think of  an activity and restaurant that they have never been to. This is Minneapolis, no problemo.   I decided that we would go to the Walker and then out to eat at ChinDian.

We discussed the plan and B said "wait, I know, let's paint out own art and frame it and make our own museum.  I was very tempted to say no B... let's go... But it hit me, we do have empty frames.  We have art supplies galore, why the heck not?

So, off we went, informing all people who were in attendance that they would be expected to make their own art inspired by the trip to the museum.  It was actually a brilliant idea.  It gave us something to talk about (as if there isn't enough at the walker).  When there was a lull, we could ask if anything in the room would inspire their art when we return.    A asked me twice where her markers were.  Clearly, she would prefer to paint while at the museum.

The restaurant of course, was closed.  Thankfully, I got lost in that neighborhood recently and knew Obento-ya was just around the corner.  Quick transition and we had some tasty food including the best child meal at any restaurant in the past three years (that is, until Sunday AM).

Off to painting.  There was some grumbling and rumbling.  It took me a while to get all adults on board (I am looking at you Brendan).  But, turns out, Grandma and Grandpa are both secretly talented.  The girls really enjoyed watching everyone else paint and draw with them.  B bounced from adult to adult to see what they decided to draw.  She could identify everyone's inspiration, and was pleased at the participation in her plan.

My favorite part was when I actually broke out the frames.  She was so excited and curious to see all of the pieces trimmed and framed.  There was a little whining from Grandpa that his art was compromised because of the framing job, but what can you do?  The only reason this art museum plan could happen is that we just happened to have all of the pieces in house.

Tomorrow we will hang the pieces and enjoy the family museum.  What a great idea and great day with the family!  Photos soon.
